EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2018

In the Summer of 2018 as a part of the Edinburgh International Festival's Year of Young People, I was part of a group of young designers asked to design and make seven capes to be worn by the youth choir in the Opening Ceremony. The capes were inspired by those worn in the trenches in WWI to celebrate the 100 years since the Armistice. The capes were created using original patterns from the War, but could be adapted in terms of textile design, whilst still retaining the same silhouette universally to ensure cohesion. My prints were inspired by the shapes of the trenches and the scars left on the landscape by four years of static warfare. They were created using foil which were highlighted by the handheld lights given to each member of the choir. Above you can see a sample of some of the capes worn on the day of the performance.
